On this trip I did not get to see much of the country of Croatia as we crossed the border, via road, from Montenegro and it is a short drive to Dubrovnik. The scenery on the way was nice but nothing like the beauty of Montenegro, this might just be the small part of the country we were in as I have heard many people say how awesome Croatia is, so I will withhold judgment until I go back and explore the rest of the country.  🙂

Dubrovnik

We spent a day and a half in Dubrovnik and this was on our own as our trip with Wilderness Travel officially ended once we were dropped off. Nothing was planned for our time so we figured we would spend some time in the Old Town and then just explore the rest of the area by foot.  The first afternoon we found a “walking trail by the coast” that looked interesting however, that trail was not marked and ambiguous (i.e. we got lost) but we ended up by the beaches and found many establishments willing to serve us frosty beverages. The next morning we explored the walled Old Town and planned to take the cable car up the mountain for the views but the possibility of a storm had closed the tram so we headed out towards the beaches for the afternoon.  🙂

Logistics

This is the third of three countries visited on this vacation.  The trip started in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) for a day before leaving for Montenegro and finished with us being dropped off in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The main part of the trip (in Montenegro) was a packaged tour trip organized by Wilderness Travel and it was the second time I have used them and their office staff were able to answer all my questions. This was an 11 day itinerary that they called Montenegro and the Adriatic Coast. We Started our last day near Kotor in Montenegro and were driven into Croatia, with the option of being dropped of at the Dubrovnik airport or at a central hotel near Old Town Dubrovnik. We were told that they could not take us to our individual hotels (for those not flying out) due to local traffic rules as they had been billed 60 Euros in the past for stopping to let people off in the past. A little inconvenient but understandable.

Hotel LeroIn Dubrovnik we were on our own for accommodations so we stayed at Hotel Lero as it was reasonably priced and an easy walk to Old Town (10 minutes) and the LAPAD beaches (15 minutes).  The hotel is nothing fancy, very basic and our room was small but all we needed were a couple of beds and a shower. 🙂
