Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is an island country in the Caribbean. The nation of Cuba comprises the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos. Havana is the capital of Cuba and its largest city. The second-largest city is Santiago de Cuba. To the north of Cuba lies the United States (150 km or 93 mi away), the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are to the northeast, Mexico is to the west (210 km or 130 mi away), the Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast.
This was a trip that my nephew had wanted to do to celebrate his birthday, so he picked the location and the itinerary. Very much the typical Caribbean vacation spot, lots of great beaches and everything around the resort catering to tourists. Everyone was great and easy to talk with.
Varadero
This is the main tourist resort area on the island and we spent our fair share of time just sitting on the beach but we did take a few excursions to go 4×4 riding and to explore an underground natural pool.
Havana
I did not realize how much influence the USA had on architecture in Cuba until this visit as I learned that much of the capital was build by the USA and their capital building is a scale image of the USA White House.
Logistics
This was a typical Caribbean vacation package with charter flight from Toronto and an all-inclusive resort, including airport transfers. The trip was book through itravel2000 which is an online travel service. I cannot give them much or a review as my nephew did most of the planning.
