This was actually my third or fourth trip to Mexico, having done the day trip to Tijuana, a resort vacation to Huatulco, and a SCUBA trip to Cozumel but I did not take many pictures of those trips. This was also a trip were we stayed at an all-inclusive resort but we rented a car and had some great day trips to see Mayan ruins.

Cancun

This was a typical large Cancun beach resort. Big buildings, basic furnishings, nothing special, but it was very clean and had your typical services.

Chichen Itza

I did not know much about Mayan ruins before this trip but we rented a car and were able to find our way. We only got lost once and that was on the way back.  🙂

I did remember it being very, very humid on this day.

Tourist access has been greatly scaled back since my visit, which is probably for the best, but I did enjoy being able to climb the Temple of Kukulcan and seeing the view for miles around.

Tulum

A couple of days later we grabbed a bus to take us down to Tulum. These ruins are right on the coast but they had heavy rains overnight so there was some flooding but being by the coast not as humid as Chichen Itza.

I went a little iguana overboard here, as they were all over the place and were very happy to sit still for photographs.

Logistics

This was a package deal, airport fare and all-inclusive resort, offered by Apple Vacations. I have no real feedback other than the package was as offered. Airfare from San Francisco, airport transfer and the resort, everything went fine and the resort was good enough to put us in a building that did not have all partying college kids.

My first time out of the United States was when I was a spoiled 15-year old California girl and I went to Mexico for two weeks with the high school Spanish Club. It was eye-opening. So much beauty and so much poverty. I had never seen poverty before. It gave me an appreciation for what I have that has never left me.
